Fiscal Sponsorship

ClearQuarter operates under a fiscal sponsorship arrangement with a qualified 501(c)(3) organization. This means:

  • Tax-Deductible Donations: All contributions made through our platform are tax-deductible as allowed by law.
  • Professional Oversight: An established charitable organization provides financial management and legal compliance.
  • Proper Governance: The fiscal sponsor maintains appropriate board oversight and regulatory compliance.

Variance Power

Under IRS guidelines for fiscal sponsorship, our fiscal sponsor maintains "variance power" over all donations. This is a legal requirement that ensures:

  • Donations qualify as tax-deductible charitable contributions
  • The fiscal sponsor can allocate funds where they will have the greatest impact
  • Proper charitable purpose is maintained regardless of donor preferences
Important Donor Notice
When you donate to a portfolio, you are expressing a philanthropic preference, not directing a grant. The fiscal sponsor retains full discretion over fund allocation. Donors cannot earmark contributions for specific nonprofits.

Our Role & Limitations

ClearQuarter is an information and reporting platform. We provide transparency and connection, not financial services.

What We Do
  • Curate cause-based portfolios
  • Publish quarterly impact reports
  • Provide nonprofit partner information
  • Facilitate connection to fiscal sponsor
  • Maintain audit trails
What We Don't Do
  • Process or hold donations
  • Make grant allocation decisions
  • Allow donor-directed grants
  • Operate as a DAF or marketplace
  • Charge fees on donations

Quarterly Reporting

Every quarter, we publish comprehensive impact reports for each portfolio. These reports include:

  • Aggregated impact metrics from nonprofit partners
  • Narrative summaries of activities and outcomes
  • Financial summaries (via fiscal sponsor)
  • Stories and highlights from the field

Reports are prepared based on data submitted by nonprofit partners and reviewed by our team before publication. The fiscal sponsor provides financial data for inclusion.
